While surfing Facebook this afternoon, I saw pictures of a politician blatantly advertising his relief operation efforts by plastering his name and face on a banner and on instant noodles being distributed to the victims. The same politician also plastered his name and logo on food packages distributed to evacuation centers in the height of Typhoon Ondoy's destruction a couple of weeks ago. Such tackiness only reinforces my opinion that it's beginning to look like campaigns for Halalanan 2010 has unofficially started.
Philippine elections, as we all know, mostly involve choosing the best candidate to govern our country. What if not a single candidate is best suited to do so? Unfortunately, we just settle by choosing the candidate with the least evil deeds to vote for. Wouldn't it be nice if voters can somehow punish bad candidates by being able to negatively vote for the candidate they most hate, instead of wasting their half-hearted votes on the seemingly "best" candidate. But to avoid abuse, a voter can only choose to either positively or negatively vote for one candidate per position... kinda like the right-minus-wrong concept that the UPCAT is notoriously known for. Haha. Hopefully this can make politicians think twice before committing actions that can garner them negative votes, which can cancel out the positive votes they campaigned (or bribed) so hard to obtain.
