I Love You, Goodbye.

Tonight, my beloved Guinny (Dec 2002 - Nov 2008) joined Piggie in guinea pig heaven. I knew it was coming. I was already expecting this time would come since guinea pigs normally only live for 4-7 years. However expecting the inevitable still does not prepare you when the inevitable does happen.

This week has been an exhausting week for Guinny and my entire household. Lately, she has been eating less and less. Her normal plump body was gone in just a few days. We had to hand fed her hourly just to make sure she still got her daily fill of nutrients. It wasn't difficult feeding her since Guinny has always been a matakaw guinea pig... it's actually why I noticed her in Bio-Research Megamall 6 years ago.

Rafa, my boyfriend then, and I just finished Christmas shopping when he remembered that he needed to buy dog food. Since it was such a hassle to leave all the stuff we bought in the package counter, I decided to stay outside the store to look after all the stuff we bought. While waiting, I watched the guinea pig aquarium to keep myself entertained. This little white and brown guinea pig immediately caught my attention because while all her companions were huddled together sleeping on top of each other, she was happily eating all the pellets she can eat. At that moment on, I was drawn... I knew I wanted to keep her... I knew we were meant to be together. I insisted that we buy her then and there. My ex hesitated, knowing that 1) I don't have the slightest clue how to take care of a guinea pig, and 2) we weren't going home after shopping since we had to meet my college caf barkada at Tiananmen Bar in Makati. But being the brat that I was a few years back, my way won like it always did. It's one of the instances in my life that I never regretted acting bratty because it brought with it 6 wonderful years with my beloved pet.

I'm missing you already, Gwin. I love you, and with great sadness I say goodbye. Rest in peace my pet.
